Developed at Specialized in partnership with Dr. Andy Pruitt of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine (Utah), the BG Fit bike fitting system is a proven method for achieving optimal positioning regardless of your skill level.
What is the BG Fit bike fitting method?
The BG Fit method involves studying your morphology and movements to help you adopt a position on your bike focused on comfort and optimizing your performance, taking into account your history and flexibility. This includes, in particular, measuring your sit bones to ensure the saddle width is adequate and that it suits your cycling practice (long or short distance, competition or leisure, seeking a more or less aggressive position), whether you ride to push your limits or simply for pleasure.
After an interview, a 20-step physiological evaluation, and precise adjustments, the fitting specialist can adapt the bike and equipment to the cyclist's morphology. With the aid of a computer, cameras, and specially designed devices, the technician can find THE position that will suit each cyclist.
What good bike fitting can do for you...
Do you experience occasional and/or recurrent pain when cycling? The Body Geometry Fit system does not claim to cure injuries, but we can certainly help you avoid pain due to poor positioning. It is also a misconception that a high-end fitting like BG Fit is only recommended for high-level cyclists. Comfort on the bike is not reserved for the cycling elite: you are entitled to it too!
In short, BG Fit is a state-of-the-art technology that adapts to your needs. Whether you are a fan of mountain biking or road biking , you will benefit from a proven solution used by several Pro Tour cycling teams, you will experience unparalleled comfort, optimal performance, and significantly reduce the risk of injury.
What does a BG Fit fitting session look like?
A session takes place in a specially equipped room and is conducted by a BG Fit certified technician. The session, lasting approximately 3 hours, is divided into 4 stages:
1. PRE-FITTING INTERVIEW
This interview provides a quick overview of your cycling experience and allows the technician to get to know you better. Before starting the study, they will ask you about your cycling practice, your level, and your past injuries. With specific questions about injury history related to different parts of the anatomy, the technician can anticipate flexibility limitations affecting different aspects of your position.
2. 20-POINT FLEXIBILITY ASSESSMENT
This assessment provides an accurate picture of your flexibility and other physical characteristics. It includes an evaluation of foot structure, knee position, spinal curves, shoulder extension, and hip flexion, to name a few.
Based on the information obtained, the technician dynamically adjusts your saddle height and setback, handlebar height, stem length, and shoe cleat position. These dynamic adjustments aim to create a neutral position for greater comfort.
3. LATERAL VIEW (2D)
The goal is to adjust the bike so that the cyclist is comfortable on the hoods, can climb while relaxing on the flat part of the handlebars, and can descend and accelerate in the drops. To achieve this, all three positions must be comfortable and accessible. A neutral position allows the cyclist to adapt to changes in pace and terrain, cadence, and effort.
After observing your pedaling from the side, the technician measures and modifies your cleat position, saddle setback, and leg extension to improve your comfort, efficiency, and power.
Starting from the neutral position, which places you on the bike to be more powerful in the drops and more comfortable on the hoods, the technician will make more precise adjustments to the handlebars and shifters, improving shoulder/arm/wrist alignment to reduce hand numbness as well as back and lower back pain.
4. FRONTAL VIEW (3D)
Focused on the details of rider alignment, pedal stroke, and biomechanics, this step involves precise adjustments to optimize comfort and performance. These adjustments help align the cyclist on the saddle so they can generate balanced power.
Since every pedal stroke counts, the technician will complete their evaluation with a front-view analysis of your pedaling cycle and biomechanical profile, adjusting shoes and foot stance to optimize hip/knee/foot alignment. These adjustments help achieve greater comfort and better efficiency.
At the end of the session, we provide you with a report that includes the evaluation results and the data specific to you, which can be replicated on another bike. The service is guaranteed. You can therefore return to the store if needed.
When cycling equals comfort!
Body fitting helps find solutions for physical pains (back pain, neck pain, etc.), physiological problems (shorter leg, restriction due to injury or disability), or poor initial positioning on the bike.
Whether you're looking for comfort, efficiency, or performance—and regardless of whether it's for road, triathlon, time trial, or mountain biking—the ergonomic BG Fit positioning system is a real asset. In addition to gaining comfort, a better position will allow you to ride longer, faster, further, and finish your rides less fatigued.
We look forward to providing you with the Bicycles Quilicot experience and the unparalleled service of our certified technicians.
