An Italian saddle story
Selle Royal was born in 1956, when Riccardo Bigolin, a pharmacist by training, went into bicycle saddles after the Italian bike market slumped in 1955. The company, headquartered in Pozzoleone, Italy, bet early on polyurethane foam, then on gel to spread pressure. In 1997 it launched Fizik, a premium saddle brand that went on to make its own mark.

How to choose your saddle
Thick padding isn't everything: the saddle's width should match the distance between your sit bones, the bones you sit on. Once you've chosen, set the saddle level before adjusting the tilt in small steps. A saddle that is too wide chafes; one that is too narrow concentrates pressure.
