When Specialized announced the new 2015 Tarmac , the company mentioned McLaren's involvement as a partner in developing the Rider-First™ data collection system.

This time, rather than just making their new frame stiffer or lighter, Specialized used McLaren's data collection system to study the frame's behavior with riders of different sizes. Although Specialized only briefly presented the basic principles of the system used for data collection, we can trust McLaren's technology. It is, after all, technology developed by one of the most successful high-performance automotive manufacturers in F1.

It was highly anticipated that a McLaren-signed frame would follow the release of the 2015 Tarmac, unveiled in May 2014. Moreover, the timing is perfect for the launch of this purebred, just a few days before the Tour de France.

Some riders will have the chance to ride the beast during the 2014 Tour de France, notably Jacob Fuglsang from Astana and Nicholas Roche from Tinkoff-Saxo.

With a price tag above $20,000, we agree, this racing machine is not for every budget.

In terms of components, the Tarmac McLaren will be delivered with Dura-Ace 9070 Di2 components and EE Cycleworks brakes. The Roval CLX40R wheels are exclusive to the Tarmac McLaren and will be 90 grams lighter than the standard CLX40. The remaining components, including the crankset, stem, and handlebars, will be selected by a BG Fit certified morphological positioning technician upon delivery of the bike.
