Employee portrait: Michel, Jack of all trades
As part of our employee spotlight series, we’re taking you behind the scenes at Bicycles Quilicot to meet the people who are the heart of our company. Today’s feature is Michel, a passionate team member who has been with Quilicot for an incredible 15 years!
Introduction and journey at Bicycles Quilicot
"My name is Michel Grou, a part-time employee at Bicycles Quilicot. Over the years, I’ve held several roles, including sales advisor, delivery driver, and bike assembler. This year, I was honoured to receive a recognition award celebrating my 15 years with the company.
My journey with Quilicot began in 2009, back when there were only two locations: the Masson Street store and the Sainte-Thérèse store. I was a frequent customer at Sainte-Thérèse and well-known to the staff. Evelyne, the co-owner, gave me a Quilicot polo shirt (which I still have!) and offered me a job as a sales advisor. I said yes, and since then, I’ve worked at the Laval and Sainte-Thérèse stores, as well as at the warehouse.

Cycling experience
“I’ve tried all types of cycling, but road biking definitely takes up the biggest part of my rides. I used to do mountain biking, but as I get older, I’ve been focusing more on road cycling. I also enjoy gravel biking from time to time. Recently, I got myself an electric bike to ride in the Laurentians, tackle hills, and so on... it really helps a lot!”
Favorite(s) Bike(s)
“I wouldn’t say my bike, but my bikes! They’re all personal favourites. I’ve had several matte black bikes in the past... I kept them for a few months and then sold them. I love unique bikes. My Specialized Venge Tom Boonen edition is one-of-a-kind! The same goes for my Tarmac special edition Nibali. I also have a Time bike that’s been ridden in the Tour de France—it’s a true collector’s item! My vintage Colnagos feature stunning custom paint jobs. I’m always impressed by beautiful paintwork.
A matte black bike is common, but bikes like these are truly unique. My Specialized Crux has a special blue paint job, and it’s the first bike I’ve owned that can take wider tires, offering more comfort and allowing me to ride on a variety of surfaces.
If I had to keep only one? In terms of beauty, it would be my Specialized Venge—I absolutely love it! But for versatility, it would probably be my Specialized Crux. With 28mm tires, it’s perfect for road rides, but I can swap out the wheels and take it through trails, gravel, and rocky paths. It really pushes the boundaries of a standard bike."
Essential Gear
“It’s nothing groundbreaking, but for comfort, I’d say a properly fitted helmet is essential! Shoes are just as important—they need to be comfortable and also clean. I always wear spotless glasses that are adapted to the conditions of the ride, whether it’s sunny, cloudy, or anything in between.
I also love stopping at cozy cafés during a ride. I don’t bring much food along—I’d rather take a short break for a latte and a brioche. It’s the perfect combo for me!

Michel's recommendation
“Europe is definitely a dream destination for cycling. If I could, I’d love to ride Mont Ventoux again! I’ve done it once before... I thought I knew what to expect, but I was clearly unprepared for the climb to the summit. On this side of the Atlantic, I really enjoy the Lake Placid area. Climbing Whiteface Mountain is a serious challenge too—it’s a fantastic spot for cycling and so close to home.
Closer to where I live, the Lower Laurentians region is where I feel most at home. There are endless options for a great ride, whether it’s exploring the country roads in St-Benoit or St-Augustin, or following the orchard route in St-Joseph-du-Lac. So many beautiful choices!
My best recommendation? Ride with friends—it makes every ride better!
