Employee Spotlight: Jonathan, Head Mechanic at Montréal Rosemont
In our employee spotlight series, we invite you to take a behind-the-scenes look at Bicycles Quilicot and the people who keep the wheels turning. Today, meet Jonathan, a long-time team member and lead mechanic at our Montréal Rosemont location.
Introduction and Journey at Bicycles Quilicot
"My name is Jonathan and I’m the head mechanic at our Rosemont store. I’ve been with Quilicot for 10 years now – time really flies! What started out as a student job turned into a full-on career. I’ve always loved bikes and working with my hands, so this job is the perfect match. These days, I get to build and prep dream bikes – pretty awesome, right?
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work in a few different locations: Masson Street (Rosemont), Vélo Branché, Mont-Tremblant and Ste-Thérèse. That said, I’ve been based out of Masson in Montréal for the past four years. The workshop here is super dynamic – there’s always something going on, and we see a lot of regulars. I’m either at the front helping out or tucked away in the back, wrenching.

Cycling Practice
“I’m a pretty versatile cyclist. I love commuting, although my lifestyle lately hasn’t made it as easy. I’m also into gravel riding – there’s just something about a fast, nimble, yet sturdy bike that lets you fly into trails, cut through the forest, and come out onto the road again. That kind of freedom is unbeatable!
I’m not just a cyclist though – I love all kinds of sports and I’m pretty multidisciplinary in my approach. I’m into weight training, calisthenics, yoga, and hockey, but I’ll try just about anything. I think mixing it up helps you grow as an athlete by challenging your body in different ways. For example, yoga’s a great complement to cycling – it helps with flexibility, strengthens the legs, hip flexors, core and so much more. Try it once, you’ll be hooked!”
Favourite Bike(s)
“Right now, I only have my commuter – it’s a slightly modified road bike, set up for urban agility and rolling on Mavic wheels. My goal is to get a BMC Roadmachine – it would give me the best of both worlds: a solid road bike I can also use for gravel.
But my absolute dream bike? The BMC Kaius 01 ONE."
Essential Gear
“Definitely a flat repair kit. Specifically: a tube, tire levers, self-adhesive patches, and a CO2 cartridge (something like the Specialized kit). That way, no matter what happens, you won’t end up walking 10 km home…
You’ll want something compact to carry it all – whether that’s a saddle bag, handlebar bag or a frame bag – just enough space for your repair kit, a multi-tool, some gummies for a little boost, and maybe a card to stop for a coffee or a bite.
Oh, and speaking of fuel – energy chews like Clif Bloks are a must for me. You don’t want to run out of juice mid-ride!
”
Jonathan's Recommendation
“I’m a mechanic, so if I have one piece of advice, it’s to take care of your bike. Learn some basic maintenance skills or come see a pro like me – especially for the more complicated stuff. The key is to budget for regular maintenance and cleaning. That’s how your machine will perform at its best and last over time. Come see me in-store – I’ll be happy to help! ”
