How Do PRIZM Lenses Work?

What Are Oakley PRIZM Lenses Made Of?
All PRIZM lenses are made of Plutonite, Oakley's exclusive lens material. Plutonite is a high-quality polycarbonate that is highly impact-resistant. These lenses are created by melting Plutonite to a liquid state, then adding dyes to achieve the desired color and tint. This manufacturing method ensures that the lenses will never degrade over time, and the UV protection infused in the lens cannot be scratched off.
Are Oakley PRIZM Lenses Polarized?
Not all PRIZM lenses are polarized, as certain situations do not require it and, in some cases, it can even inhibit performance. Oakley PRIZM polarized lenses reduce glare caused by light reflecting off surfaces such as water or metal and are recommended for aquatic activities or driving. However, the main drawback of polarized lenses is that they can reduce depth perception. Except for the PRIZM Deep Water and PRIZM Shallow Water lenses, PRIZM sport lenses are not polarized. To mitigate glare without sacrificing depth perception, a mirrored coating is applied to all sport-specific lenses.
