Days are getting shorter. Yes, autumn has officially arrived.
Although there are still some beautiful sunny days ahead, the wind and cool weather sometimes make us hesitate to go cycling. So, trail running becomes an interesting choice to stay in shape and extend the joy of outdoor activity!
BENEFITS OF TRAIL RUNNING
In recent years, there has been a resurgence of trail running, often called trail running or Cross-Country . We also see more and more events where runners have the opportunity to test their abilities on mountain or forest courses. This doesn't surprise coaches and running specialists who have been involved in this field for a long time.
3 REASONS TO PRACTICE TRAIL RUNNING:
1. Trail running is beneficial for body and mind
Indeed, more and more runners appreciate the calm and rejuvenation that trail running provides. It's far from the noise, traffic, and daily stress. And the air you breathe there is excellent for the lungs. A great way to take time for yourself while being active.
2. Trail running requires your body to contract a multitude of stabilizing muscles
A trail is a challenging terrain for a runner. They must run on varied inclines, avoid tree roots and rocks. They must agilely ascend and descend many slopes, cross bridges, jump over obstacles, and even leap from rock to rock to cross a stream.
As a result, many stabilizing muscles must coordinate and contract at the right moment to maintain balance while running. Additionally, the muscles of the lower limbs (feet, calves, hamstrings, quadriceps, glutes, psoas) must exert the necessary force to maintain running pace, despite obstacles.
This results in natural strengthening, as given the softer surface of a trail, the runner must exert additional force from the lower limbs compared to a harder surface.
3. Trail running reduces impacts on joints compared to road running.
Indeed, the impacts normally absorbed by the feet, ankles, knees, and hips on hard surfaces (concrete, asphalt) will be less during trail running. This will allow the joints to rest a bit if you are one of those who do most of their training on the road.
For all these reasons, and especially for the fun of it, we invite you to the first edition of the Bicycles Quilicot Crosscountry which will take place on Saturday, November 1st, from 10 am to 12 pm, at the Jardin des Sources in Ste-Thérèse.
