Top 5 cycling trends for 2024

Every year, the world of cycling evolves and new concepts emerge, innovations take hold, or sometimes certain cyclists or brands reinvent long-held precepts to improve performance or comfort on their machines. Discover today our selection of the 5 main trends to follow in the cycling world in 2024 ;)

Kids e-bikes

In 2024, the unstoppable electric bike trend is spreading to a new generation of cyclists with the widespread introduction of electric bike models for children by manufacturers. These bikes offer a playful introduction to electric mobility, creating a fun cycling experience for younger riders. On these bikes, the emphasis is on ease of use and autonomy, enabling children to enjoy extended rides and accompany their parents more easily, laying the foundations for a lasting cycling passion within a family.

Ever wider spacing for gravel tires

The year 2024 sees the gravel bike market increasingly split into two camps: on the one hand, models with a strong focus on speed and performance, which are very similar to road bikes; and on the other, bikes sometimes incorporating suspension, but above all wider and wider tire spacing, up to over 50mm now, making them almost comparable to cross-country bikes. Models of this type are becoming more and more common among manufacturers, and are meeting with a certain success with a public that may come from gravel and wish to venture into increasingly arduous terrain, but also with mountain bike enthusiasts looking for a lighter, more versatile bike.

Different tire sizes front and rear on road bikes

The professional peloton and competitions like the Tour de France often serve as laboratories for manufacturers to test the viability of their innovations, and this sometimes sets real trends. During the 2023 edition of the Grande Boucle, some observers noted some unusual choices for the road world, such as on Egan Bernal's Pinarello Dogma F: a narrower tire (25mm) on the front wheel and a wider one (28mm) on the rear wheel, as is often done on mountain bikes, for example. The rationale behind this choice is that having a thinner tire at the front enhances aerodynamics, while a wider tire at the rear provides better grip and comfort. Since then, it has become less and less rare to see competitors and cyclists alike on our roads with a similar choice, which until now has been very uncommon in this field.

Dynamic suspension on mountain bikes

A notable technological advance in 2024 is the widespread use of real-time adaptive suspension on mountain bikes. This revolutionary innovation will enable the suspension to be instantly adjusted to suit terrain conditions, offering a responsive, uncompromising ride, but also making it easier to vary the types of riding. We could therefore see ultra-polyvalent mountain models. Riders will be able to tackle a variety of trails and mix styles within a single outing, redefining the boundaries of mountain bike exploration.

Narrower road bike handlebars

After several years of widening road bike handlebars since the late 2000s, the trend is reversing. After the fashion for recurved brake handles, we're now seeing a return to ever-narrower handlebars. This subtle but significant evolution offers a rethought riding experience. These handlebars reduce wind resistance, improving efficiency especially over long distances. A modification that strikes a delicate balance between increased control and ergonomic comfort, but creates the perfect synergy to enhance on-road performance.
