With the Kaius, BMC plays the versatility card. The Swiss manufacturer offers an aggressive and high performance gravel bike, capable of taking you on all roads at high speed.
Versatile, responsive and durable, it's an ideal bike for trail racers but also for those who like long rides that alternate between asphalt and gravel roads! Find out more about this unique bike that we offer at Bicycles Quilicot.
High speed gravel
BMC has integrated the technologies of the high-end road bike, the Teammachine, into the Kaius, its performance-oriented gravel model. While the two bikes may seem very similar at first glance outside of tire size, the Kaius has some unique technical specifications. For example, BMC has developed a new frame, using a high-modulus fiber with optimal stiffness without compromising lightness, but which also guarantees unparalleled strength, an important feature for gravel to withstand external impacts from, for example, chunks of rock.
The Kaius frame is very light, weighing 910 g in size 54, with a 400 g fork, 160 g seatpost and 315 g new cockpit, for a total weight of 1785 g. The Kaius 01 Two weighs less than 7.5 kg, a remarkable performance for its class.
BMC also adjusted the geometry to improve stability. The wheelbase has been lengthened by about 10mm for more control, with a shorter stem for better comfort. Chainstays have been lengthened to 420mm, allowing the use of tires up to 45mm in diameter. The chainstays are asymmetrical, with a reinforced straight chainstay to resist stress.
An aero gravel frame for a maximum of versatility
The Aerocore design developed and proven on the Teammaniche and Timemachine Road bikes is retained on the Kaius to maximize aerodynamics. The bottle cages fit perfectly in the line of the down tube to facilitate airflow while providing optimal support for the bottles.
BMC also took comfort into account, with a thin seat tube just above the bottom bracket to accommodate the tires and provide comfort. The fiber blend used on these areas as well as the thin TCC (Tuned Compliance Concept) seatstays is also important to the bike's ride quality. The Kaius uses the TCC Race, which differs from the TCC Speed used on the Timemachine Road and the TCC Endurance used on the Roadmachine, and represents a perfect compromise between the extreme stiffness of road performance and the flexibility needed for gravel riding.
The bike is equipped on both versions with SRAM groupsets (Rival on the Kaius 01 Three, Force on the Kaius 01 Two), with a 30/43 teeth crankset and a 10-36 teeth cassette, ideal for trail performance while keeping a certain versatility.
The same goes for the brakes: the Kaius 01 Three is equipped with SRAM Rival eTap AXS HRD, with 160mm Paceline discs, while the Kaius 01 Two is equipped with SRAM Force eTap AXS HRD, also with 160mm Centerline X discs. Still a perfect equipment for practices going to the committed gravel.
With a maximum tire clearance of 45mm, the BMC Kaius confirms its versatility. If the basic tires are 40mm Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H, you have the possibility to equip yourself with wider tires for a particularly committed practice, or even thinner ones for a practice more focused on a mix of surfaces.
In the end, the BMC Kaius is a gravel bike that delivers top-notch performance. With its lightness, stiffness, versatility and comfort, it's the perfect choice for gravel enthusiasts looking for a superior bike, but also for road cyclists who want tokeep the door to adventure open and have a bike that allows for variety on a single ride.
